How to Coordinate Cabinets, Countertops, Flooring and Hardware

A professional material palette has hierarchy. Decide which element carries the strongest movement or color, then allow surrounding cabinets, countertops, flooring, backsplash and hardware to support it.

Start with fixed conditions such as existing flooring, natural light and adjoining rooms. Compare cabinet doors vertically and countertop samples horizontally because that is how the materials will be viewed after installation.

Undertones matter more than broad color names. White can be cool or creamy, gray can lean blue or green, and natural woods can introduce red, gold or neutral notes. View samples together under the room lighting.

Hardware adds contrast and repetition. Finish, scale and placement should coordinate with lighting and plumbing without requiring every metal to match exactly. Sink material and faucet holes must be confirmed before countertop fabrication.
